Nigerian singer Tems has been nominated for the BET Her award at the 2026 BET Awards for her uplifting single “First.”
The nominations were announced on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The BET Her category celebrates tracks by women that deliver powerful, empowering messages.
Tems competes against an impressive lineup including Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Jill Scott (with two entries), Doechii featuring SZA, Summer Walker featuring Latto & Doja Cat, Doja Cat, and Olivia Dean.
“First,” a standout from Tems’ critically acclaimed album Born in the Wild, has resonated with fans for its themes of self‑affirmation and resilience. The song showcases her distinctive vocals and introspective songwriting, further cementing her reputation as one of Africa’s most influential musical voices.
This nomination adds to Tems’ three total nods at the 2026 BET Awards, making her the most nominated African act this year. She is also up for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Viewers’ Choice for “Raindance” with Dave.
The 2026 BET Awards will air live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 28, with comedian Druski hosting.
