Nigerian actress Wunmi Mosaku has added another major accolade to her growing collection, winning the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her haunting performance as Hoodoo healer Annie in Ryan Coogler’s vampire period drama, Sinners.
Mosaku’s victory at the prestigious ceremony marks her first film BAFTA win and second overall, following her 2017 television win for Damilola, Our Loved Boy.
The win was considered a mild surprise, with Teyana Taylor previously viewed as the favourite for her role in One Battle After Another.
Accepting the award while heavily pregnant, Mosaku delivered an emotional speech, dedicating the honour to her daughter. “I found a part of myself in Annie, a part of my hopes, my ancestral power and connection, parts I thought I had lost or tried to dim as an immigrant trying to fit in,” she said.
The victory adds to an impressive awards season for the actress. She previously won Outstanding Supporting Performance at the 2025 Gotham Awards and took home the same honour at the Black Reel Awards, where Sinners made history with a record-breaking 14 wins.
She also won Best Supporting Actress from the African American Film Critics Association.
Mosaku is nominated for an Oscar in the same category, part of Sinners’ historic 16 Academy Award nominations—the most of any film this year.
