In a historic display of global appeal, the Nollywood blockbuster “Behind The Scenes” has grossed a remarkable £93,094 at the box office in the UK and Ireland.
Produced by the legendary Funke Akindele, the film achieved the biggest opening weekend ever for a Nollywood production in these regions, initially raking in £42,000 during its debut.
This international triumph mirrors its unprecedented domestic success. In just 19 days, the movie shattered records to become the fastest film in West Africa to cross the ₦1 billion mark. Centred on the relatable theme of “black tax” and family obligations, the drama stars Scarlet Gomez and an elite ensemble including Iyabo Ojo and Tobi Bakre.
This milestone signifies a golden era for the Nigerian film industry. As the world’s second-largest film producer by volume, Nollywood is no longer just a regional powerhouse but a global cultural titan.
Through high-quality storytelling and technical excellence, Nigerian cinema is successfully exporting its rich heritage, proving that authentic African narratives possess the power to dominate theatres worldwide.
