Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan and his KAP Group have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Benin, forging a strategic partnership to transform West Africa’s audiovisual landscape.

The agreement was formalised in February 2026 at the KAP Hub in Lagos, following a high-level invitation from the Beninese Presidency.
The historic collaboration rests on three pillars: co-producing authentic African stories merging Nigerian and Beninese cultural narratives, structured youth training through the KAP Film & Television Academy, and developing a world-class Film City in Ouidah, Benin.
A high-level Beninese delegation, including Special Advisers to the President and officials from SOPA (Benin’s state-owned production company), signed the agreement with the KAP team led by Afolayan and Executive Director Seun Soyinka.
The delegation will tour KAP’s production facilities in Lagos and Oyo State as part of the official programme running from February 19 to 22.

Speaking on the development, Kunle Afolayan described the collaboration as “a defining moment for African cinema, where visionary leadership, cultural authenticity, and creative enterprise converge to project our stories to the world.”
Sinatou Saka, Special Adviser to the Beninese President for Media and Audiovisual Affairs, expressed excitement about formalising the partnership, particularly in capacity building.
