King Charles III waded into the legendary “Jollof Wars” tonight to declare Nigerian jollof rice superior during his state banquet speech for President Bola Tinubu at Windsor Castle.
Welcoming the Nigerian leader for the first state visit by a Nigerian president in 37 years, the King recalled hosting a “jollof and tea” reception for the Nigerian diaspora at St. James’s Palace last week. He humorously noted that his guests had “firmly assured” him the Nigerian version was the best.
However, Charles immediately balanced the scales, adding: “I was firmly assured that the jollof was only the best: Nigerian, of course… or perhaps Ghanaian or Senegalese. Diplomatically, I cannot remember.”
The lighthearted moment punctuated an evening focused on strengthening UK-Nigeria strategic partnerships. The two-day visit, running March 18–19, aims to boost cooperation on economic growth, innovation, and cultural ties between the nations.
