Guinness World Records has sparked global buzz after hinting at a potential record review for the viral bread‑inspired gown worn by former Big Brother Naija star Queen Mercy Atang at the 12th AMVCA.

Reacting to an Instagram video of the dramatic red carpet look, the official Guinness account commented: “Well, we do have a record for the largest cake dress … hmmm.” Atang quickly replied: “Hello @guinnessworldrecords, I see you in the comment section.”

The eye‑catching gown, crafted from 500 loaves of bread and designed by celebrity stylist Toyin Lawani of Tiannah’s Empire, was not merely a fashion statement. Atang explicitly stated the dress was a strategic marketing campaign to promote her Lagos‑based bakery, Swit Cakes & Desserts.

While Guinness currently tracks the largest wearable cake dress (131.15 kg, held by Switzerland’s Natasha Fokas), no official category exists for a bread dress.

The move has divided opinion: food security critics called it wasteful, while PR experts hailed it as a genius branding coup that secured free global publicity.

Atang’s bakery may have risen – one loaf at a time.
