Ghanaians are finally turning their attention inward. Social media users and citizens are now focusing on their own crumbling infrastructure rather than obsessing over Nigeria, following a viral outburst from a Ghanaian YouTuber.
“The internet space in Ghana is speaking out against this because it’s outrageous,” he said. “We’re not going to focus on other countries while we’re living in hell and painting our situation good.”
His frustration? Domestic flights cost 5,000 cedis—equivalent to half a million naira—for a short Accra-Kumasi trip. Flights to other African countries cost almost the same price. And the alternative—driving—means risking bent frames, burst tyres, and fatal crashes.
He said a popular radio personality, Kwame, lamented the absurdity. “Why am I paying 5k to fly within Ghana?” he asked.
The YouTuber noted that social media users are now comparing their system to Nigeria’s, where multiple airlines offer more options. But the point was clear: Ghanaians are done looking outward.
The Accra-Kumasi road is in a terrible state. Local flights are overpriced. Infrastructure is decades behind. And for years, many Ghanaians focused on Nigeria’s struggles while ignoring their own.
Now they’re speaking up. The focus has shifted. Ghana is finally looking at Ghana.
