Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has been awarded the Mwankomplus Vanguard Award for Music, in a carefully considered recognition of his enduring contribution to the sound, global reach, and future of African music over the past 15 years.

The award was presented in partnership with Martell Nigeria and Rolling Stone Africa.

In a statement announcing the honour, organisers described Davido as an artist who has used his talent to unite audiences across continents while telling a vibrant story of West African culture. “His music represents the life, joy and energy that defines the region,” the statement read.

“We are honoured to present this award to Davido for his enduring impact on the sound, reach and future of African music over the last 15 years. Over that time, Davido has used his talent to bring people together across continents and tell a story of what West African culture is.”

The Mwankomplus Vanguard Award for Music is designed to spotlight artists whose influence extends beyond chart numbers into cultural and generational significance. Davido, whose catalogue includes global anthems and multiple award-winning albums, has been a defining force in the Afrobeats movement since his breakout in the early 2010s.

The recognition adds to a long list of accolades for the singer, who continues to play a pivotal role in taking Nigerian music to the world stage.

In response to the honour, the announcement simply added: “Congratulations, @davido and here’s to the next 15 years.”
