Chioma’s Grammy dress sparks backlash from political aide

While Afrobeats superstar Davido was celebrated for his presence at the 2026 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, it was his wife Chioma’s red carpet fashion that stole the headlines, sparking a heated debate online after drawing sharp criticism from a political aide.

Ossai Ovie Success, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, took to social media to express his “disappointment” over Chioma’s choice of attire. She wore a striking, sheer Black gown adorned with floral appliqués, a look that he deemed inappropriate for representing the nation.

“I am disappointed in Chioma Davido’s dressing: She shouldn’t have been half n*ked to Grammy,” Ossai wrote. He argued that the outfit failed to represent Nigerian culture, instead embracing a “revealing Western style.”

The governor’s aide also directed criticism at Davido himself, stating he expected the music icon to have provided better guidance. “As a role model to many Nigerian young ladies, her dressing internationally will negatively influence them,” he continued, adding, “I am disappointed in Davido for allowing her to dress this way.”

The post immediately went viral, with social media users fiercely debating whether the critique was justified or an unfair attack on Chioma’s personal style, highlighting the ongoing cultural conversation about fashion, modesty, and international representation.
