Funke Akindele’s latest blockbuster, “Behind The Scenes,” officially crossed the ₦1 billion milestone at the West African box office as of December 29, 2025.

The film achieved this feat in just 19 days, setting a new record as the fastest Nollywood production to reach the ₦1 billion mark in history.

Key Box Office Highlights

Total Gross: As of late December 2025, the film has grossed approximately ₦1,109,463,846.

Opening Weekend: It recorded the biggest opening of 2025, raking in over ₦200 million in its debut weekend.

Single-Day Record: The movie set a record for the highest single-day gross in Nollywood history, earning ₦129.5 million on Boxing Day (December 26, 2025).

Regional Performance: In its first 12 days, it grossed ₦512 million across Nigeria and Ghana, becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025.

UK Debut: The film also saw success in the UK and Ireland, earning £42,000 in its opening weekend, the highest ever for a Nollywood release in that region.

A Story That Resonates

Directed by Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, Behind the Scenes moves away from pure comedy to a gripping drama. The plot centres on the hidden pressures of success and the emotional toll of “Black Tax”—the financial burden placed on successful individuals to support extended family members.

The film features a star-studded cast including Scarlet Gomez, Tobi Bakre, Iyabo Ojo, Uzor Arukwe, and Destiny Etiko. Critics have praised the film for its relatability and high production value, which many believe is driving the repeat viewership necessary for such high-grossing numbers.

The “Billionaire” Legacy

With this achievement, Akindele becomes the first filmmaker in Nollywood history to have three consecutive films cross the ₦1 billion mark:
A Tribe Called Judah (2023): ₦1.4 billion.
Everybody Loves Jenifa (2024): ₦1.8 billion.
Behind The Scenes (2025): ₦1.1 billion (and counting).

Industry analysts suggest the film’s trajectory remains strong, with potential targets for a ₦3 billion final gross as it continues its run into 2026.

Tickets are currently available through major cinema chains like Filmhouse Cinemas and Genesis Cinemas.
