Bankulli honoured in Canada with Cultural Excellence Certificate

Nigerian music executive and Grammy‑nominated singer‑songwriter Bankulli has been honoured with an Honorary Certificate of Cultural Excellence, presented by Winnipeg Deputy Mayor Janice Lukes in Canada.

The recognition came during his visit to the Manitoba capital for the screening of his documentary Chronicles of Afrobeats, held at the Manitoba Museum on May 11, 2026.

The event served as a preview for his ambitious archival project aimed at preserving the history of Afrobeats for future generations.

Following the ceremony, Bankulli expressed his gratitude: “Thank you Councillor Janice Lukes Deputy Mayor, City of Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada for the recognition with an Honorary CERTIFICATE OF CULTURAL EXCELLENCE … Exceptional dedication to the elevation and global celebration of AFROBEATS and the rich spirit of Nigerian Culture … Tonight we screen preview chronicles of Afrobeats at the Manitoba Museum in the city … Brace up it’s going to be an epic and memorable night … Toronto is Next – May 18th.”

While in Winnipeg, Bankulli also visited the University of Manitoba as part of his “Afrobeats Goes to School” initiative.

The award highlights his role as a cultural bridge, protecting and archiving African musical stories.
