Tanzania will host the 74th Miss World pageant in May 2027, marking the first time in more than 25 years that the global competition will be held on the African continent.
The hosting agreement was signed by Julia Morley CBE, Chairwoman and CEO of the Miss World Organisation, alongside Tanzanian government officials in Dar es Salaam.
The last African edition was held in South Africa in 2001. Tanzania also becomes the first country in continental East and Central Africa to host the festival.
The event is backed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government and will be used to market Tanzania’s tourism destinations, including the Serengeti and Zanzibar.
Organisers expect more than 130 participating countries, over 20,000 international visitors, and a global television audience of more than two billion viewers.
The month-long programme will spotlight cultural and tourism assets while positioning Tanzania as a major destination for international events.
Before heading to East Africa, the Miss World Organisation is celebrating its 75th-anniversary edition in Vietnam, where the current competition is concluding.
