The Osun State Government has officially appointed Afrobeats megastar Davido as the Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, marking a bold move to bridge entertainment influence with sports development.

Confirming the appointment during a meeting with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun Chapter, the state’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, said Davido’s selection aligns with the government’s plan to rejuvenate the sports sector.
According to Adewusi, the initiative aims to drive investment into Osun’s sporting infrastructure, including the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which is being upgraded to meet Olympic standards.

He revealed that Davido accepted the role without hesitation, expressing confidence that the global music icon would attract both local and international sponsorships that would impact Osun’s sports ecosystem.
Adewusi also announced that plans are underway to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, a central body that will coordinate policies, talent development, and sports administration across the state.

The appointment is seen as a fusion of entertainment and development—leveraging Davido’s global reach to boost youth engagement and reposition Osun as a rising hub for sports excellence.
