Nigeria’s forward Victor Osimhen has been nominated for the prestigious CAF Player of the Year (Men) for 2025, putting him in contention alongside top African talents including Mohamed Salah (Egypt), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco), and Serhou Guirassy (Guinea).

Osimhen has enjoyed a meteoric rise from winning the Golden Boot at the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup to becoming Napoli’s first African to clinch the Serie A Capocannoniere and now, a key player at the Turkish club Galatasaray. A key figure for the Nigeria national side, the Super Eagles, he continues to establish himself as one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s most potent football exports.
The shortlist, featuring nominees such as Frank Anguissa (Cameroon), Denis Bouanga (Gabon), Fiston Mayele (DR Congo), Oussama Lamlouki (Tunisia), Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal), and Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal), underscores the elite competition Osimhen faces.

Should he clinch the award, it would not only honour his personal trajectory but also enhance Nigeria’s prominence on the African football stage.
