Nigeria’s sprint queen and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, once again etched her name into athletics history on Monday night in Tokyo, winning silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Championships.

The 27-year-old clocked 12.29 seconds, finishing just behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who powered to gold in 12.24s. The bronze medal went to the United States’ Grace Stark, who crossed the line in 12.34s.
The race, staged under the electric lights of Tokyo’s National Stadium, was a masterclass in speed, rhythm, and resilience. Amusan exploded out of the blocks with her trademark sharp start, powering through the hurdles with poise. But in the final meters, Kambundji surged ahead to snatch victory, leaving the Nigerian to settle for silver.

While gold slipped away, Amusan’s podium finish reaffirms her status as one of the world’s most consistent hurdlers. Since setting the world record of 12.12s at the 2022 Eugene Championships, she has remained a force, inspiring millions across Africa and beyond.
Her medal adds another bright chapter to Nigeria’s athletics legacy and keeps the nation’s flag flying proudly on the global stage.
