Nigeria’s aviation sector has entered a historic new era as Binani Air, the country’s first fully female‑owned airline, officially commenced scheduled commercial flight operations.
The airline’s inaugural flights took off on Monday, May 11, 2026, successfully linking Abuja and Lagos. Founded by prominent entrepreneur Aishatu Dahiru Binani and managed by CEO Aminatu Dahiru Chiroma, the carrier transitions from a charter provider to a full‑service domestic airline.
“This is a defining moment for women in Nigerian aviation,” said CEO Chiroma. “We are proving that female leadership can soar at the highest levels.”
Binani Air is headquartered at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Its fleet includes twin‑engine Embraer E170 regional jets for scheduled domestic routes and a mid‑size Hawker 800XP jet for private charter operations.
Following successful launches in Lagos, Abuja, and Yola, management has announced aggressive expansion plans to connect Anambra, Kano, Maiduguri, and Port Harcourt.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) certified the airline after a rigorous safety assessment. Director‑General Chris Najomo commended Binani Air for meeting “stringent, non‑negotiable regulatory standards.” Promotional fares are now available on the airline’s official web portal.
