Miss Universe Nigeria 2025, Onyinyechi Basil, has released a series of regal portraits that perfectly encapsulate her simple yet profound message: “Tradition, royalty and pure elegance.”
Fresh from her celebrated journey at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant in Thailand, the Nigerian queen continues to champion her nation’s culture, this time through a stunning sartorial statement crafted by a team of local artisans.

For the portraits, captured by the visionary photographer Samuel Abati, Basil wore a masterpiece from the Lagos-based fashion house, Rosie Young. The ensemble is a powerful dialogue between ancestral aesthetics and contemporary couture. An architectural, off-the-shoulder collar in royal blue velvet frames a meticulously beaded bodice, where crushed coral and lapis-hued stones create a dazzling mosaic. The gown then transitions into a slim, richly woven skirt, its vibrant, multicoloured pattern reminiscent of traditional Nigerian textiles, before cascading into a dramatic blue velvet train.
The look, curated by the celebrated stylist Mickey, is a masterclass in accessorising with cultural reverence. Chunky, traditional coral beads, sourced from Okuku By Ojone, adorn her neck, wrists, and hair, which was swept into a majestic updo by hairstylist Anniee. Celebrity makeup artist Eleez sculpted a flawless, glowing complexion with a look that was both striking and sophisticated. In her hand, Basil holds a traditional horsetail whisk (an irukere), a potent symbol of authority and grace, grounding the entire look in a deep sense of royal heritage.
While the Miss Universe crown ultimately went to Miss Mexico, Onyinyechi Basil’s post-pageant reflections reveal a spirit undimmed. “I poured my whole heart into this journey, showing up with intention and giving everything I had to represent my country with pride, grace, and authenticity,” she shared.
By spotlighting an entirely Nigerian creative team—from designer to photographer—Basil makes a powerful statement about the depth of local talent.

These portraits move beyond pageantry, positioning Nigerian heritage and craftsmanship at the forefront of global fashion dialogue and redefining elegance as rooted in authenticity and cultural pride.
