In a move shaking up both Aso Rock corridors and Naija’s entertainment chatter, President Bola Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
The announcement came through a formal letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, following the resignation of Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar on Monday.
General Musa, born in Sokoto in 1967, is a decorated officer and former Chief of Defence Staff whose leadership track spans Operation Lafiya Dole, the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad region, and Operation Hadin Kai.
The Colin Powell Award–winning soldier is widely respected for stabilizing tough theatres and modernizing infantry operations.
Tinubu says he’s confident the battle-tested general will elevate Nigeria’s security playbook and bring fresh energy to the Defence Ministry.
