Just when you thought “Detty December” couldn’t get any more intense, Lagos is raising the stakes with a challenge that is as audacious as it is electrifying. Organizers have officially announced plans for what is being billed as Africa’s largest and longest beach festival—a staggering 96-hour non-stop DJ Marathon set to take over the city’s coastline.
The event, scheduled to run from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026, is designed as a round-the-clock music rally. It will see 100 DJs converge on Lagos to spin back-to-back, with the explicit aim of shattering the current global record of 55 continuous hours of DJ performance.
Speaking ahead of the festival, Buchi Henry Mbagwu, CEO of Afroxela and the convener of this marathon, revealed that the concept was born from a desire to capitalize on the world’s fascination with Lagos’s legendary party culture.
“The concept was inspired by the growing global fascination with Lagos’ ‘Detty December’ nightlife,” Mbagwu stated.
By extending the festival across four days—bridging the old year and the new—the organizers are creating a literal “no sleep” zone, inviting revelers to immerse themselves in a continuous sonic journey that spans Afrobeats, Amapiano, House, and Hip-Hop.
The logistical ambition of this event is immense. Coordinating 100 DJs to maintain a seamless, high-energy flow for 96 hours requires precision engineering of sound and schedule. If successful, the event will not only rewrite the Guinness World Records but also cement Lagos’s reputation as the undisputed entertainment capital of Africa.
As the clock ticks down to December 29th, the city is bracing for a marathon that promises to test the limits of its sound systems and the endurance of its partygoers. Lagos is ready to dance into 2026, and it doesn’t plan on stopping for four straight days.
