In a moving display of family devotion, a viral video shared by U.S.-based autism expert Aliyu has captured the profound moment a Nigerian grandmother was reunited with her three grandchildren.

The footage captures the raw, unfiltered joy as the woman realises her family has arrived unannounced from abroad. Seeing Shaheem, now much older since his last visit at age five, alongside Sufyan and Sousan, who were visiting Nigeria for the first time, she erupted into screams of pure jubilation.

Aliyu noted that, despite the years that had passed, “the love remains the same.”

This surprise highlights a cornerstone of Nigerian culture. For those living within the country or in the diaspora, the pilgrimage home to visit parents and grandparents for the New Year is a sacred tradition. It is a time to honour roots and usher in the year surrounded by family.

This reunion serves as a poignant reminder that despite the distance of migration, the emotional bridge to one’s heritage remains unbreakable.
